Rolfer Mark Powell

I was first introduced to Rolfing by longtime acquaintance Wayne Henningsgaard, who took me through the Rolfing 10-series in the late 1980s. His style remains a strong influence in my work to this day.

In 1997 I completed my training at The Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and I’ve been in private practice in Minneapolis ever since. As a Rolfer I have a special interest in Rolfing’s ability not only to eliminate physical pain, but to deepen personal growth at the same time. I am also passionate about bringing a wholehearted, conscious presence to each session.

I have a BA from the University of Minnesota in Holistic Health and have published numerous articles and one book on stress reduction, holistic health and radiant wellbeing.

Personal information: I live in Uptown, South Minneapolis with Carolyn, my wife of over two decades, and with our cats, Oblio and Tiberius. I’m a lifelong martial artist and martial art instructor and I also taught in a Waldorf school for 17 years. In my spare time, I engage a spiritual practice, write, train with Russian kettlebells and practice yoga.

Here’s an email that a client sent out to all her friends right after her first Rolfing session with me. She was kind enough to cc me:

“I just came back from my first Rolfing appointment and wanted to share the experience with you, in case it’s relevant for yourself or someone you know. My first session was one hour long and afterward I was able to walk more comfortably, I could actually feel my posture was different as I walked. I always heard that Rolfing was a therapy you were glad when it was over, uncomfortable, painful even; that was always intimidating for me. Rather, today’s session was very deliberate, specific, and he worked only to a depth that was therapeutic to me, not beyond. Mark Powell has been a Rolfer for 13 years and I can’t say enough about his professionalism, his accuracy, and his therapeutic efficacy. I’ll be scheduling a series of sessions with him and would be happy to keep you informed about the process if you’re curious. In case you or someone you know are looking for a body therapy to address physical issues, I am happy to recommend him.”
